| Once again, I think you have failed to grasp the point. At the moment there are three lanes with ambiguity on the two to the left as to whether individual vehicles are going to the A4 or A316. This, as you should have observed from your countless times driving across the roundabout tends to create lane confusion which significantly slows the flow of traffic and reduces the number of vehicles that gets through on the green phase at the lights before the roundabout entering on A4 westbound. Under the proposal these lanes will see no lane ambiguity and vehicles will move through much more smoothly significantly boosting junction capacity. The one fly in the ointment is the decision to make two of the southbound lanes on the east of the roundabout signed for the A316 with the old Church Street lane switched over. It seems odd to have two lanes at this point when the funnel into the A316 has been restricted and there is a potential for problems here particularly when larger vehicles are manoeuvring into the road in front of the George & Devonshire. This may reduce the benefits of the extra lane westbound but not to the extent that it won't help reduce tailbacks on the westbound carriageway. |
