| I have studied the proposals in detail and read the OCPS objections to it. I entirely agree with their suggestion that the reduction in risk at this junction which which this massively expensive proposal seeks to achieve could be realised simply by making it explicit that the westbound left lane is for A316 traffic only and not A316 and A4 as it is currently. That the number of collisions resulting in serious injury at Hogarth Roundabout in a year is fewer than half that took place at one junction of Cycleway 9 and King Street around the same period puts things in context. TfL wants to make these changes because of the need to increase capacity at the junction due to anticipated increase in A4 traffic when it is already struggling to cope. There are massive developments in the pipeline all along this road and Heathrow passenger numbers are predicted to keep on rising. If it was honest in explaining why it is proposing to make these changes I would be willing to listen but justifying an addition of an extra lane on a very weak argument based on safety means that the proposals can't be supported. My head is spinning that you of all people, who so recently had demand induction as one of your constantly repeated catchphrases, could be an enthusiastic proponent of a four lane highway. |
