| I am truly sorry that you have Polio - you must be one of the last/really unlucky because I (age 66) and my sisters (69 and 72) all had the vaccine which more or less eliminated it. Maybe you have seen a woman who lives south of the A4 who is bent double - literally - and walks with a 4 wheel shopper - she faces the floor - she walks almost every day to the High Rd and I have seen her in King St - she was there on car free day. So - yes there are a few who genuinely need cars but given that people in my road (by Gunnersbury Station) drive to the High Rd, drive to Airedale Ave to the gym, drive their kids to Strand (I kid you not) - there are many many cars on the Roads locally which need not be and free up space for the genuine but pretty rare needs of others. Young people are not driving nor owning cars so the streets need future proofing and that future is not so far away. Today (age 66) I cycled to CHR to shop, to Uxbridge Rd to an independent shoe shop and to St Mary's Hosp for an MRI - all doable but really not very pleasant - safe space would mean so many others could do it. Change is possible if only people would accept it and not fight against it. We all would like cleaner air and a pleasanter street scene. |
