Why do you think there will be fewer cars? As Chiswick Bridge is one of the two main diversions won't we, as we have seen thus far, continue to get more cars? The area around Brentford is going to see a population explosion during this period — perhaps an extra three thousand extra people. Even if none of them own cars they will generate a significant number of extra journeys in the goods and services provision they will require. Also did the points about the major construction projects not register? There are likely to be hundreds of extra lorry movements in the area for a sustained period. True there will be fewer buses because of TfL cuts but there are no corresponding increases in public transport provision elsewhere. Some of the people for whom buses are no longer practical may cycle but many will be forced back into cars. Increasingly congested roads mean longer journey times, which means more vehicles on the road at any given time. Can you come up with a reasoned argument why this isn't going to be a very difficult time for the area? |
