You seemed to have completely missed the point I was trying to get across to Julie. The perjorative language that you use is hardly the stuff of the live and let live philosophy that you claim to espouse. Also I don't really understand what you mean when you say you 'object to being told'. This seems to boil down to an objection to people having different views from you. Your post is also misinformed. Most of the New Testament is written decades not centuries after the event and is based on contemporaneous accounts. This is as good as it gets for most historical figures of the period. There is no dispute as to his existence or to what he has said. His philosophy is remarkably modern. Any dispute concerns his divinity which I don't believe in but I can see great value in teaching his philosophy. You have to realise how your views look to an objective observer. Nobody is trying to force you to believe anything yet you seem anxious that there are people waiting round the corner to browbeat you into their point of view. I'd suggest you make a bit more effort to learn about the thing that seems to intimidate you so. |
