Julia I'm against taxpayer-subsidised faith schools. I've got no problem with the religicos building churches and running schools with their own money, but I don't see why I have to pay towards them, since the faith bit has nothing to do with education. As for the indoctrination of children into a religion being brain-washing - I would agree, but would you take away a parent's right to raise a child how they wish? It could go both ways - I'm combating the constant religious nonsense that my daughters get told by religious teachers by simply pointing out to them that not everyone believes and that I don't. At least they will have a choice when they grow up. If there were laws about what you could tell your children about religion it wouldn't be long before a group like the Scientologists started insisting that their cult be described as a religion, on pain of litigation. |
