Roland, from what I can see most of the correspondents to this thread would advocate tolerance rather than entrenched viewpoints. Each to their own... At the end of the day my own experience has been that my mother lost all faith in God as a direct result of the Nazism. 'How can there be a God if He allows 6 million to die?' .... besides the countless millions since, at the hands of Stalin etc...not to mention the atrocities in Darwar currently. The w orld seems not to care at all about this current genocide. I'm afraid this is one case where I agree with my mother. Nothing can convince me otherwise BUT that doesn't mean to say that if others are able to benefit from having 'faith' they shouldn't be able to do so. What I find totally abhorent is any one religion/creed/cult that actively preys on people to convert them, be it Christian fundamentalism, Scientology or any other. This is probably my Jewish heritage as it is very difficult to convert to being one of the Chosen ones (chosen for what, one may ask!) Perhaps that is why I find the concept of religious meetings being held at a local cafe, as Stine brought to our attention, slightly disturbing. Shalom. |
