Spot on Malcolm. It is how we extend consideration for others worldwide that should inform our morality. Irrational fear, as expressed in the prompt to this thread, is possibly the greatest obstacle to a unified set of principals. We understand, through genetic studies, that we are all descended from a common African ancestor yet racism persists. We know that the nature of matter is infinitely devisible and infinitely large, that the universe is unfathomable from our earth bound observatory and yet many tend not to acknowledge the possibility of an infinite being when the nature of the universe, as we know it, clearly holds that possibility. How a belief that this possibility does not exist will overcome the problems we face is restrictive and negative, particularly when taken to the extreme; as our recent history informs us. Obstacles to unification of our species includes subjugation of instinct, removal of false boundaries (nationalism) and the rejection of political philosophies that result in an abuse of positions of governance. Unification of mankind is the vision that has inspired and continues to inspire millions throughout the world. It is those who wish to obstruct that process, be they media owners, multi-national corporations, governments or individuals that threaten our continued existance. I hope that everyone, particularly those who would otherwise have to work, enjoy their Christian inspired holiday on Monday. |
