'Unfortunately atheists tend to resort to sneering, irrelevant claims, abuse, diversions and sarcasm, claiming to be tolerant while qualifying that claim.' Is that tolerance in action? Roland has little respect for any-one with different ideas from his own, and I would say has shown himself to the least tolerant poster on this site effectively calling people names and accusing them and myself included of racism. Religious people are inclined to think they have a right to respect for their ideas out of all proportion to any other situation eg. politics. They have been taught that religion is out-of-bounds to normal human argument. Well, it is isn't it! To say a particular religious idea is 'silly' is inflated into an insult to God. On the whole it seems to me that the outcasts, and wary ones too, are atheists and agnostics because in the end religious people are at one in that any religion is better than no religion at all. I don't want to see our green and pleasant land turned into a bible belt where people pretend to be religious rather than have their advancement in life curtailed by religious predudice. And Sean (who I only know through this forum) has been a gentle advocate of such ideas. It is only a touchy religious person who could react like that to what was obviously not intended to insult but to expand...humourously albeit... the ways of 'tolerance'. |
