No Nik I have answered the question but you haven't understood the answer because you haven't realised who is causing delays to buses and vulnerable people who are car-dependent even though you identify them in your post and even though you are a self-confessed culprit yourself: "The here and now is buses have been impacted and if anything push people into cars because people think. Why sit on a bus which had a speed advantage in a bus lane when I can sit in my own car and travel at the same speed." i.e. all the able-bodied drivers who selfishly occupy the road space that could be left for buses and people who are genuinely dependent on motor vehicles for their journeys. Two other salient points here: 1. There are extensive roadworks affecting all road users at the moment. Bike users are the most affected and the least complaining. When these are finished there will be much more space for active travel and that will generate the results described in the video and we will all benefit from that for many years to come 2. The magic bus lane of car-drivers dreams was never continuous and had limited hours. The former meant that buses had to rejoin the car lanes and that meant the A315 was always reduced to the capacity of a single lane anyway; the latter meant that drivers parked in the bus lanes in Chiswick after 6pm and on Sundays, blocking them. It is always drivers who block and delay buses however you look at it. |
