I don't understand the point about needing to cycle on the pavement. Cycling under the underpass was never particularly dangerous once they repaired the potholes and it still has buses and a significant number of cars passing through so any safety benefit is pretty marginal. I was also recently nearly taken out by a car reversing out of the tunnel after the driver realised belatedly there was a restriction. Cycling on South Parade and Acton Lane is significantly more risky when there are queues of traffic because the road is very narrow and you often have to negotiate a gap on the inside of vehicles if you can pass at all. On balance these changes have made me feel less safe when cycling. |
