Because they're dumped on their side across Pavements making it hard for the disabled, Mums with buggies or young children in hand and people on mobility vehicles to get past them. Suggest you look at the front page story regarding Orange and Lime bikes, from the photo it's very easy to see that the space they occupy on the pavement leaves very little room for anything other than one person to pass these bikes and certainly not two way Pedestrian footfall, Mum's with buggies or young children in hand or worse still disabled people on mobility vehicles - quite shameful and extremely inconsiderate. On Saturday morning 2 Mobikes had been dumped in the road, yes the road, outside WH Smith and Robert Dyas - accidents waiting to happen. Just because Cyclists mode of transport is carbon neutral, the manufacturing and delivery processes ARE NOT, and the country who manufactures these bikes is the world's largest polluter in terms of CO2 emissions. Just the activity of cycling is carbon neutral shouldn't mean its proponents has Carte Blanche for obvious reasons. Also, in case you hadn't noticed this is neither Amsterdam nor Copenhagen, different layouts, different cultures and different attitudes. If people want to cycle that's their choice but if they don't or can't, then that too is their choice. The UK has a strong, long and proud tradition of not being bullied, and imho the cycling fraternity are getting too close to being seen as Bullies, who believe it's their way or no way, and that's simply not acceptable. If people want to cycle do so, but not at the expense of others and certainly not by breaking the law - this morning in less than 1 minute myself and another dog walker witnessed 7 Cyclists crash red lights at the CHR / HT intersection. A danger to themselves, other road users and pedestrians. |
