It is not just a question of those who 'need' Mobikes liking them and those you don't hating them. It is about a lot of other questions, like: Shouldn't pedestrians, pram ushers and disabled vehicles have priority on pavements? When I first raised the problems caused by mobike careless parking for me as an ageing pedestrian, the forum thread descended into the usual pro/anti-bike attacks. My point about the obstacles caused to pedestrians, particularly the elderly, disabled and parents pushing prams got lost in that never-ending dispute. Yes, more bike use has health benefits, but not if the method use causes pedestrian safety and other environmental issues. Shouldn't we care about the way our home area is being turned into an ugly, cluttered, potentially dangerous orange bike park? How much is Mobike paying for using what should be public spaces created and maintained by Council and other taxes? Are Mobikes allowed to park where no other vehicles can, like pavement kerbs and bus stops hindering getting on and off vehicles; in clusters without a sign to indicate if there is permission from the Council; and the many other public spaces detailed on this thread? A Councillor on the Forum said LBH was consulting on the use of Mobikes. How has this been publicised and what are the results? (I have seen nothing about the consultation, although I live close to a station which is attracting high mobike numbers). I believe Mobike is a Chinese company. How much UK tax does it pay on what profit? |
