| ""How much do the manufacturers and supermarkets pay the Local Authorities directly for disposing of the packaging they swathe their products in?" I'm sure you're aware that ALL businesses have to have certified waste disposal facility either via a Local Authority or a Private Contractor." Sure - but it would be far better for there to be stricter regulation and enforcement of those regulations on how much and what packaging was used - and matching of one business's unwanted waste to another's needed resource. There is a waste hierarchy and the emphasis has for far too long been on the wrong end ie "Recycle" rather than on "Reduce". Far too much parliamentary protectionism and pussy-footing. Scotland is way ahead on their way to waste minimisation. I agree that the bikes need to be managed but so does the population who have become too self-centred and inconsiderate of other pavement users in dumping bikes instead of being more thoughtful and constructive and seeing the benefits of moving forwards to less air pollution and a smaller carbon footprint. |
