"what's another 5 minutes on foot" David in an ideal world probably not much. However we don't, another 5 minutes in the wrong direction, meaning a 10 minute walk to start your journey, would put me off. If you can only drop them within a zone/Chiswick, then quite frankly I can walk anywhere in Chiswick in that time. Perhaps on a nice sunny summers day it would work, but seriously do you think people will walk 10 minutes on a cold and possibly wet winters evening to collect a bike? As I've already said, the bikes need to be in a reasonable walking distance, otherwise people will just jump in their cars. I think we have to look in the long term. I hope that in the future Mobikes will be London wide, which could mean a possible reduction in bikes in Chiswick. This would be so much more attractive to me, as I'm generally put off by the restrictions in dropping them off. Free advertising and rates> We already subsidise, for the greater benefit of the community. I think buses run at a loss, or is it night buses, I cant remember. However the company has to start somewhere. |
