| Anyone who can cycle on a sustained basis at 3mph is an exceptionally skilled cyclist. The reality is that cyclists and pedestrians and dogs have co-existed quite happily nearly all of the time up until Mr Crane's legal action. The minority of cyclists that cause problems will cause problems even after any new restrictions are brought in. The concern at this point is that the council will feel legally obliged to introduce restrictions if the outcome of the case results in them getting legal advice that they should do so. This will mean that law-abiding cyclists who cause no problems will need to switch to the road. The council will therefore need to upgrade cycling infrastructure in the area to accommodate this so, although the changes I suggested might seem a bit radical, the council really wouldn't have any choice but to make them. |
