| There was a time when pretty much every public open space would have a list of byelaws displayed at entrances. The most common were "no cycling" "no dogs" and "no ball-games allowed". Although these lists of forbidden activities have largely disappeared to be replaced by more welcoming displays I'm willing to bet that the relevant legislation has never been changed. We routinely accept the presence of cyclists, dog walkers, footballers, joggers, exercise classes etc in our parks but I think that the only class of users actually within their rights to be there are probably those just using their legs to walk! Acton Green common has become very busy and mere pedestrians can often feel outnumbered by those pursuing their own dedicated activities. The simple answer of course is for everyone to treat everyone else with courtesy and respect, surely not that difficult? A bit more emphasis on responsibilities rather than rights wouldn't go amiss. |
