| If Acton Green were to be closed off to cyclists there would have to be some consideration given to how they could continue to cycle safely in the area. South Parade and Acton Lane are much busier than it used to be since the closure of Fisher's lane and, although not constantly as some people claim, they are more regularly blocked with static traffic than they used to be. The problem is that the roads are so narrow that if the traffic is static it is impossible to make progress on a bike. The solution could be to lose the parking on the north side of Acton Green and the west side of Acton Lane to make space for cycle lanes in each direction. As far as I am aware Southfield Park is not common land so the council are free to improve cycling facilities there and I look forward to an improved surface and better access at the northern entrance when they widen the alleyway. |
