Stewart, It was wrong of you to state that "bedroom tax" is the commonly understood name etc - it is the commonly mis-understood name. And yes, I am complaining that people - chiefly those who disagree with this reform - continue to mischaracterise and distort the argument by referring to a tax, rather than a subsidy. As for the argument itself, whilst I accept that there may be initially unforeseen problems with this benefits reform which need to be addressed, overall I think it can prove to be a worthwhile move. Of course I say "can", because with a subject so complex as this one, I do not claim to be so certain as you as to exactly how it will work out, until we have had a year or two to see. |
