Thanks Stewart for highlighting this. In addition to people misunderstanding statistics, through ignorance or prejudice, statistics are of course often deliberately misrepresented to fuel some of the convenient mis-perceptions. There have been numerous recent examples of government ministers being criticised by office bodies for the way they have used misleading statistics to justify policies, with Duncan Smith a persistent offender.
