Claire, i asked for your view, not trying to pick a fight so I'm sorry if you took it that way. Since you posted the DM and DT articles, I was asking your opinion about the inconsistency between them and the perception one could reasonably infer from them, that the issue of a lack of native English speakers in schools is going down (if you do believe it is going down, then i'm confused as to why you posted the links in the first place!). The original point of thread was exactly that - perception as you say. We agree on one point, people get concerned because of what they read in the papers - however, i think this is because people make a conscious decision to remain ignorant of facts and take things at face value, I prefer not to. The media has a huge responsibility here, but it is also important for individuals, i.e. you and I to arm ourselves with the facts in order to debate sensibly, instead of accepting what is spoonfed to us in the media and by government. Do you agree, or does this make me arrogant? Genuine question. |
