'Sitting idly by' - fiddling while Rome burns?. No Neil, I'm sure I would be doing all I possibly could to get the information necessary to avoid atrocity, I would be desperately unturning every stone possible. But I hope, I really do hope I would not stoop to torture. You go on and on about that horrible world out there, well come on, tell us what you know. Let's have some details. I note that you haven't made any comment about the behaviour of countries where torture and disappearings are normal. Doubtless justified by the same twisted morals you yourself are trying to employ. Monica, you talk about 'frightening people' - waterboarding is torture. Read about it. If it was just a bit scary then it wouldn't work. Here's one quote - "Mr Nance, who is now an independent consultant, said the technique was also futile, as well as barbaric, as the prisoner would say anything to survive – regardless of its truth." At least Francis finally came out with his own real feelings - "the end justifies the means" - I take that to mean not only really torturing people, but also really torturing innocent people - the 'healthy adults' of an earlier example. Would he really stop there, if the end justified the means? - why would a childs life be worth more than these hundreds of possible victims?. |
