Bush still felt he had to claim waterboarding was legal on the advice he was given. The question then is what if the advice had said it was illegal. And if he would have still used it, which other illegal form of torture would he be prepared to use? Those who feel torture is justified by the 'what if its saves lives arguments' therefore need to say whether they would draw a moral line anywhere - if so, where and if not explain what that does to the moral principles on which our society is based and which we are meant to be defending. |
