Jonathan - the answer to your question would be yes. I would separate the villagers on the assumption that they are not helping us because of intimidation and then ask them individually for intelligence. If nothing is forthcoming I would waterboard the healthy adults. To me it would be morally wrong to allow people to be killed in this situation. However, I'm generally against armies of occupation so the dilemma is not one that would ever have presented itself to me. Vanessa - look up fact in the dictionary and then look up hypothesis. The decision you are faced with is binary - torture someone or by your inaction be indirectly responsible for a large number of deaths. There is no cop out here. |
