Well, I'd rather be put down as a 'No' than mealy mouthed. No-one pointed out that the suspect would not necessarily give up the info under waterboarding - so again you are corrupting yourself for a dubious gain (yes, I'm sure that torturing someone affects the torturer as well as the victim). In my opinion a hypothetical situation worth discussing is one that actually has a chance of occurring. So lets consider something more likely. Your informant has given you good reliable info in the past, and now tells you that a big bomb is imminent - he gives you the name of a village and that's all he knows. You raise a force and go there to find a barn full of bomb making equipment, tracks show that a truck has left the barn recently and you are sure that it is a bomb - but where is it going?. Someone knows but all 20 villagers of all ages and sexes plead ignorance under normal interrogation - but you're sure at least of of them knows. So. Will you waterboard them?. This is a truck bomb that will kill maybe hundreds of people. You will definitely be interrogating innocent people. |
