| Francis, I can't help thinking that given the right conditions your morality could give rise to the worst excesses of tyranny. You condone any behaviour 'for the greater good' - combined with the current fear of terrorist action I am so glad that our current law enforcement does not seem to follow your guidelines. I don't believe that there are forces going around torturing people 'so that we can sleep safely at night', or we would have heard about it. The stories coming out from Iraq and Afghanistan shows that it is impossible to keep these things quiet. In fact I'd say that people don't sleep safely at night in countries where the police DO go around in the middle hauling suspects out of bed for interrogation. |
