I was considering Marinairport, (see web site), not Maplin. The journey time from Heathrow to Central London may have an advantage over a high speed rail journey from an airport to the east, but not by much. Members on the panel of Any Questions this week said that it is too dangerous for Londoners to continue to grow the use of Heathrow. They blamed the Government for failing to build a high speed rail network in the UK with affordable fares, as in other countries. The hundreds of flights a week from Heathrow to places that could be reached more quickly by rail make air travel to those destinations unsustainable. |
