OK, Tom don't risk any mentalleap. This is from the BBC report: "An airport worker told the BBC the pilot on the Boeing 777 had said he had lost all power, and had been forced to glide the plane in to land." I'm no aircrash investigator, but looking at the wreckage just inside the perimeter it doesn't look like any controlled landing. Coming in like a brick is more likely the reason why the airframe took such punishment, rather than a skid on the runway. Richard took photos of the descent and landing, if he wants to respond he could give a report as to whether the aircraft was making a routine approach under power or not. I think we can all count ourselves lucky that none of us are searching in rubble for our loved ones. Let's not let it happen in reality. Why don't you open 2 postings; for participants to register under their own names as to whether they want a 3rd runway or not. We can then see who votes for which option. We have had all sorts of surveys, but this site is for W4 residents so let's see who amongst us wants another runway, versus those that don't. Only one vote, either for or against. |
