Kevin Regan’s points are quite valid. The Government should plan to ‘retire’ Heathrow over the next fifty years in favour of an off-shore airport, not propose that it has extra landing paths and double the number of flights. It sickens me to read the earlier posting that the near disaster “will provoke a disproportionate response from those against runway 3." DISPROPORTIONATE ?? From what we understand, had it not been for the skill of the pilots, the ‘plane could have landed on Feltham or Hounslow. Another posting above was “This was hardly a catastrophe, and in any case even when crashing in dense residential areas ground casualties historically are low.” Presumably, other major cities in the world that have built new airports so that all arrivals are NOT over densely populated areas think that ground casualties should be minimised. Richard Jennings’ photographs are really disturbing and so is the NATS and AEF reports that Tom Pike and Tim Henderson have referenced. |
