I was just re-reading the (possibly alarmist) HACAN ClearSkies Summer 2000 document "What if it had happened here" http://www.wlfoet5.demon.co.uk/heathrow/safety/crashes.pdf This transposed various airport crashes onto a West London map centred on Heathrow. What interested me was the statement that a Dutch report reckoned an airport such as Heathrow could expect one or two crashes in the vicinity for every 10 million movements. (agreeing with the Times report) It reported the last crash as the 1972 Crooked Billet accident and gave the figure of passenger air transport movements since then as 9 million, increasing at around half a million a year. |
