Without making political points personally the recent crash is a reminder of the real risks of airport expansion. Planes do crash and the govnt's crazy proposals could see three streams of plans flying into land simultaneously. As well as the noise this is clearly dangerous. The ludicrous editorial in the Times today suggests the odds are 10m to 1 of crashes. That sounds reassurring, but the plans would see up to 800k flights a year at LHR, suggesting a crash at least every 12 years. With several schools in Chiswick and elsewhere in west London set to be under the flight path, do we really believe this is acceptable. There is a reason that no other country in the western world allows flight paths over the centre of major cities. |
