I noted from the platform of TG station this morning, which provides a goodview of landing approaches, that none of the aircraft were lowering their undercarriage until well to the west of where I was standing. Previously there has been no set pattern, some come into view with wheels already down, most start lowering when approximately level with TGT and some leave it till the M4 flyover. Not so today, so I wonder if either their was a failure after the undercarrige was lowered yesterday, or whether approaching pilots are giving themselves as 'clean' a configuration as possible in case they too have to make a glide approach. Perhaps then bird strikes in both engines might be the cause? reports spoke of the engines revving but no apparent power to lift the aircraft. The point has been made that only a few seconds earlier and they would not have reached the airport at all. |
