| "I belive we should look after the English first and formost, Paul paid his tax's for years and it was the first time he's asked any thing from our system, I feel that before another couple of years is out l will be the only english speaking person in Chiswick." You where doing well until you made the 'damn immigrants' comment, and no I'm not being 'PC' I'm just no a fan of knee jerk recationist rubbish. I feel that british residents should and do get help - regardless of if they are 'one of us' or not - not because I am worried about non english speaking folks flooding our shores but simply to make the best use of resources available to us. Unfortunately it's not easy to determine who is a bona fida british resident and who is not so there will always be grey areas, after all what is 'English'? The solution to these problems may be black and white to some but often it's down to limited exposure to the problem. We need a way to prevent people getting into the situation sleeping in the park in the first place but also allow them to work AND get a level of support. Doing that and keeping things just is such a difficult things that daily mail readers will always find something to complain about, over simplify and jerk their knees about. Yes there is a barrier between being supported by the system and getting work - you're often better off on the dole than doing poorly paid work if you are covered by the system. I don't know what the solution is but saying bollocks like 'we need to look after the 'English' first' doesnt even start to address the issue and get's lots of folks running around saying 'oh yes this is a good idea' without having to engage any brain cells. The system needs simplifcation and brought in line with reality and yes there needs to be clear definitions of who gets what level of help. Paul can probably get more help than he is aware of - as is always the problem - the system is too complicated. Incidently how do you know Paul is 'our own'? What is 'our own'. Stew Dean |
