| With few exceptions, citizens are not entitled to more/different benefits than people with indefinite leave to remain; you're either eligible or you're not. The citizenship application process costs in the region of £300 (if you decide to do it all yourself and don't have to pay a solicitor), whether or not the applicant is successful, and it really doesn't make much practical difference to anything. Citizenship is not a tempting prize that you choose to accept or not accept when all its many benefits are dangled in front of you. It ensures that residency status won't be withdrawn (for instance, if you live elsewhere for more than two years) and you can travel on a British passport. And you can say you're British! |
