| Actually Anne, I don’t agree with you here. My original disagreement with Lynette focused on what I believed to be a “sales pitch” if you will that I found disingenuous. I’ve never had a problem with the fact she is investing overseas. It’s unfounded to place the blame on any “side”. If the locals want to sell to foreigners in any country then that’s their will, as long as it’s not under duress (completely irrelevant here I think). The recent “buzz” of foreign investment is hardly anything new and is part of the free economy (tongue planted in cheek) that is meant to open and integrate the EU. It reminds me of something similar in the 80’s back in Australia when the Japanese were buying up real estate in Queensland. The locals were angry because “foreigners were invading their land and taking it away from them”. It was load of xenophobic rubbish then and it is now, whichever side you wish to view it from. No one is putting a gun (I hope) to anyone’s head in these transactions. A very generous offer is made and like most reasonable people the owners are choosing to sell. Makes perfect sense to me. In this scenario it’s not fair or reasonable to blame the British for buying up Spanish land nor was it applicable when some Australians were against the Japanese buying up Queensland property. It’s a legal and fair transaction with neither side placing undue pressure on the other so I see no fault in it. As long as it’s legal and both sides are happy then what’s the problem? For the record I’ve been to Spain twice and it’s a wonderful country. I don’t think Lynette is portraying Spain in an intentionally negative light, although some earlier posts did imply such. |
