| I am sorry to sound heartless Barbara but the case you illustrate could have been (to a great) avoided if the main earner had taken out an insurance policy against loss of income due to illness. The risk of illness and the consequences were not considered sufficient for this person to pay for a policy. The state provides a basic provision but it does not promise, nor should it IMHO, to keep you in the style to which you are accustomed. It is up to you to insure privately against eventualities that put this in jepardy. |
