Justin, I looked up regulations for traffic signs and I can't see anything about "hard" and "soft" signs. There are signs that give orders, signs that give information, but nothing about "hard" or "soft". If a sign gives an order and you want to remove or change the order, then the sign needs to be changed, doesn't it? The good news for your plan is that it means it doesn't matter if the sign is No Entry or No Motor Vehicles with exemptions, you are going to have to change the signage it if you want want to permit traffic that isn't normally permitted. You are free to propose opening up Paxton Rd to relief congestion at Hogarth roundabout. It just needs a change of sign just like Fishers Lane would. This may need to be preceded by an Emergency Traffic Order but assuming the paperwork is in place, what is your proposal for changing signage? Is it high tech and replace the signage with some sort of electronic version, or low tech involving a man and a van and a ladder to put a hood over the sign? Would you plan to update all of the GPS mapping services with this change then update them back again afterwards? They don't have a particularly good track record of being responsive to changes. Anyway. I'm sure you will agree it is completely pointless posting your musings on this forum. If you are serious, why don't you form a brains trust with other forum members who believe they have the solution to traffic congestion in Chiswick. You could then write up your proposals and as a first step, perhaps submit it to the journal of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation for consideration. As the professional body responsible for planning and implementing the road network in the UK, you will get far more valuable feedback that chiswickw4. Let us know how you get on. |
