Not entirely sure what this has to do with the subject but, while this does represent a comprehensive legal victory, it needs to be recognised that the legal challenge made by One Chiswick did result in Hounslow Council making significant changes to Cycleway 9 to make it compliant with equalities legislation. If you are arguing that anyone suggesting a temporary reopening of Fishers Lane is a 'Onesie' you need to think through the implications of your position. If local authorities don't consider temporarily suspending restrictions when it might alleviate traffic then this ultimately will mean these measures result in more congestion, pollution and bus delays strengthening the argument for their removal. A flexible approach would reduce the negative impact of the changes while retaining the benefits. Unless you think there will never be another strike, serious accident, burst water main or other unexpected road closure this issue will occur again and again. It would be interesting to now if there was any response from Ealing Council to Hounslow Council's contractor encouraging traffic to travel along South Parade and Acton Lane when it was already severely congested but it does suggest whoever was keeping Cllr Dunne up to date with traffic conditions on the ground wasn't giving her the full picture. There has already been a mini-border dispute between the two councils over proposals for Swyncombe Avenue. |
