Paul, you really need to see beyond viewing these issues as being goodies vs baddies. I have no fixed view on Fishers Lane as it doesn't really directly affect me. I was prompted to make the observation having been stuck behind a bus on the A316 at the weekend having been required to deliver provisions to a person who had caught Covid-19. It struck me that a temporary suspension of the Grove Park traffic restrictions would have helped the bus keep closer to schedule. The lack of flexibility in the road network to respond to short term problems will be used as an argument against these schemes when they are next reviewed - my point was that, if you are determined on them being retained, it might make sense to concede that temporary suspensions could be considered. Michael, I don't know any of the individuals that you refer to and you clearly harbour a great deal of personal animosity towards them. All I can really go by is my own personal observation that the legal challenge to the original cycleway plan rested heavily on arguments that it failed to take account of the Disability Discrimination Act and the revised scheme dealt with many of the specific objections raised. You clearly will never be prepared to give any credit to campaigners for these changes but it seems to me unlikely that the revised designs were not influenced by the issues that they raised. |
