Ed, I tend to agree, I dont think the car park is that busy these days. But it doesnt alter the point, most of the traffic causing gridlock in recent months, well before the nightmare weekend, is through traffic. TFL and LBH have created a near perfect storm for gridlock in W4 north of the A4. For traffic coming into London W4 is a convenient cut through and there are no measures to restrict it. Problems along more direct routes into London mean mapping apps will often still divert through W4, even though reduced road capacity means more congestion and pollution for W4. Same in the evenings, when when TFL now regularly shuts down W4 by cutting green time on Sutton Court Road for traffic heading to the A4/ M4 out of London, plus the regular gridlock at Chiswick roundabout. We then have more development in W4 that will increase traffic around the High Road, Empire House is ongoing and a new denser development for Chiswick Terrace by the junction of the High Road and Acton Lane. The full development of the Sainsbury's site is a matter of when not if. But TFL's new bus gate has cut the eastbound capicity on the High Road by 70%, with no thought as to where that traffic will go. The answer is onto residential streets including Wellesley Road. |
