Andrew, that is a fair point but remember vehicles can continue to use roads like Hartington Road and Staveley Road with the necessary exemptions so it is already confusing for drivers hence the high level of fines being issued. There will be a problem with Sat Navs being confused by temporary openings but seems like a small price to pay particularly if the authorities are lenient with anyone confused by the chopping and changing of restrictions. Michael, you seem to be misunderstanding the point I am making. The idea would be to temporarily suspend 'soft' access restrictions on roads which already allow some exempt traffic through at moments of severe stress on the road system such as for strikes and accidents. Not sure if you are familiar with the layout at the junction with Paxton Road but it is a 'hard' restriction with No Entry signs and a design for one way operation so wouldn't work for this purpose. |
