Hi Carl. Of course your views are as valid as anyone else's, even though you are not a Grove Park resident ;) But let's not get led astray with the belief that 5 or 6 people posting about CPZ on this forum is somehow representative of all Grove Park residents. Just because 3 people on here like the idea of a CPZ is pretty much irrelevant. This forum is only viewed by the tiniest minority of local residents. Asking around, most of the residents I speak to don't even know it exists. There was only ever one area wide door to door survey of all Grove Park residents concerning CPZ. It took place in 2011 (I think) and pretty much every single door in Grove Park was knocked on. Of the 2,100 (or so) people who answered their door and took part in the survey, 92% of them were totally and utterly opposed to any CPPZ, anywhere in Grove Park. You and others here may disagree with their reasons. That is fine. When that survey was submitted to the council, they took one look at it and admitted defeat. It was in fact Councillor Ed Mayne himself who presented it to the Area Forum, with the ringing words "At last, this matter is now resolved once and for all". Sadly, we later came to learn that just because Cllr Mayne says something doesn't mean it is true. So a handful of posters here does not change the fact that 92% of residents (at last count, and based on a sample of over 2,000 residents) are against CPZ. You may think the CPZ brings all sorts of benefits, and looks quite smart. But the vast majority of GP residents do not agree with you. Of course, they may have changed their minds since 2011. This is why the council should be consulting with everyone, and this is what they were instructed to do by our area forum. Sadly they are still not doing it. We are becoming increasingly aware that a large number of residents know nothing about this consultation, and that is an absolute travesty. I (and others) shall continue to complain strongly about it and I am hoping that we can get this consultation disqualified for the same reason that the last one was. The Traffic Office continues to do everything in its power to manipulate the consultation to get the result it wants. |
