Well, since (it turns out) flat dwellers who are deemed to have a private road, eg Sutton Court and Thames Village at least, are explicitly excluded from the consultation, it can't possibly include ALL affected roads /residents. Brendan is quite entitled to vote for a CPZ, and if I were him, I might too, since parking in our streets has got worse from commuters since 2004, when a CPZ was first mooted. I will merely say that, if a CPZ were instituted in his and my streets, there would be fewer spaces (though the corners would be clear, and the sightlines would be improved). Does he think that residents own fewer cars owned by residents than there will be spaces available? Not in Sutton Court and Thames Village, they don't. Unlike in leafy Park / Staveley Roads, 'Fauconberg Village' mostly does not have off-street parking, so the quantity of residents' vehicles vs. the current and future spaces available is a factor. FYI, according to the 2011 Census reports, some areas of GP have amongst the biggest household ownership of more than 3 or 4 cars (less so in 'Fauconberg Village', to be fair). My own close neighbours, who used to be single car owners, are increasingly becoming 2 car owners - and increasingly SUV / 4x4 owners. So it's possible that, even in Elmwood Road, some of whose residents think that a CPZ is a guarantee that they'll be able to park right outside their front door (which to be fair, is indeed what we all want if possible), CPZ supporters may be thwarted by their own and their fellow residents' level of car ownership. |
