"And the street furniture argument doesn't wash" You mean the argument doesn't wash with you. Which is fine of course, you (and others here) are strongly in favour of a CPZ. My point is that the vast majority of GP residents are against CPZ, for the reasons I have offered (may be other reasons of course). At least this is what they have told us when asked. Just because you disagree with it (fine with that), doesn't mean their views are worthless or "wrong". It's quite subjective, this idea of the "look and feel" of the area. And if you spend your time in Lampton Road (as our traffic officers do), the very idea of a lovely neighbourhood would never occur to you, which is why they simply cannot get their heads around it. As far as they are concerned, it's about car parking and only about car parking. Most of them have never been to Grove Park and have no idea what we are talking about. One of the officers did make the time a while back to walk around the area, and said "Wow, I had no idea this was such a lovely part of the world. It really is pretty isn't it". But most of them assume we live in grey suburban ugliness and can't understand why we don't it spoiled with CPZ (or wheelie bins for that matter - same logic). |
