Even allowing for the use of that car park there are more larger vehicles parked on the road than for the other markets but you make a good point that parking stress for residents could be reduced if this facility was available for every market. As for the dismissal of the £40,000 per annum being a small part of the overall council budget this assumes that councils always act strategically, which they rarely do. Decisions tend to be made in silos and, for a single department this money could be material. Also the net present value of an inflation proofed revenues stream of £40,000 is considerable. I honestly don't know how Hounslow Council will approach this and possibly the amount of money lost will be deemed an acceptable cost when set against the undoubted economic value of the markets but I don't see how anyone could have total confidence that this would happen. |
