I don't think you have really thought this through Paul. Will you accuse the market organisers of making 'unevidenced claims' if they respond to the consultation saying that the parking restrictions will reduce footfall at their markets? Most people on here aren't weighed down by dogma and recognise the threat this presents to the markets. They may survive the initial logistical challenges and reduction in business that the parking restrictions will bring but slowly but surely Sunday parking will expand into neighbouring zones as displacement occurs. This will include the introduction of charging in the central Chiswick car park and the council will have a fiduciary responsibility to take into account lost revenue when handing out licences. There will be fewer objections to calling it Old Market Place then because that's exactly what it will be. |
