"They’ll just park in the P&D spaces. No charge on a Sunday. I can recommend Devonshire Rd for example but as they arrive nice and early they are spoilt for choice" There would be a charge north of the High Road and four hour limit which is too short for stall holders. Plus residents want more bays converted to their sole use. The number of spaces typically available on a Sunday morning on Devonshire Road and around the Glebe Estate is unlikely to be sufficient to accommodate all the stallholders vans let alone people visiting the market. Even if they just about squeeze in residents would request Sunday parking restrictions and the precedent has been set. You are probably right that there are some people, for reasons which elude me, strongly dislike the markets and they will be rubbing their hands with glee at this development. However, the people on this thread who are warning you about this threat, want to see them stay. Perhaps the market organisers agree with you that there will be ample parking and this proposal presents them with no issues. However, I think they will recognise that there is a danger of them becoming victims of their own success. |
