"Eco Cars" are still a problem, although I don't think the term "Eco Car" is very good. An electric car still has a large environmental cost. You are wasting a lot of energy to move a tonne and half of car rather than 15kg of bike. Generating that energy is not eco friendly. There is also the issue of the batteries. Lithium batteries might be slightly less bad than oil and coal, but look at the environmental problems mining them causes in Chile. The biggest problem though is that they still cause air pollution in our cities. The biggest source of particulate emissions in our air is brake and tyre dust. Regenerative braking on electric cars will reduce brake dust, but won't eliminate it. Electric cars won't reduce tyre dust at all. The only way to fix our air pollution issues is to reduce the number of cars on the road. |
