Having worked in the Business Park, I can't see this as a workable solution. Only the eastern side of the road could be used for this, as the western side does not have a vehicle exit. The key reasons why this is a non-idea in my view are: 1. The business park owners wouldn't want it, allowing more traffic through would change the feel and design of the park, notably around the entrance from the high road, which would soon become clogged. 2. The road itself would have to improved, it's currently a service road, and not really viable as a proper road. Also, there are large parking areas which are used extensively at rush hours. 3. Tfl wouldn't support it, as it would impact their bus depot at the northern end of the eastern road, and having a major exit on Bollo lane next to the level crossing would be a nightmare. 4. As an idea, who would actually use it? It comes out half-way down Bollo Lane, so doesn't remove the problem of a narrow road (Bollo Lane), it only solves half of the issue. I would suspect a traffic planner would see it as a partial solution, and all the existing problems would continue when the cars get to Bollo Road. Also, the time saving we're talking about would be less than 5 minutes. 5. Finally, just because a route can be commandeered for a road is not a good argument for doing it. Tfl seem to be actively encouraging less car use, so I cannot see under what circumstances opening this road would be seriously considered. I can see that there will be more traffic in the area from the development, but the public transport infrastructure in that area is very good with tube, rail and many bus options. Creating more roads does not seem to be a sensible option other then to fully paid up members of the car lobby. |
