It's a shame that the people who are arguing with such vehemance against cars being allowed to cut through the business park are not equally as passionate about improved access for cyclists. The development seems to actively discourage people cutting through and when I do so I rarely see another cyclist. It would make a great designated cycleway and all that would need to change was the barriers at the northern entrance and some road markings to be added. The absence of many bikes parked around the development indicates that very few people are using them to get to work. For whatever reason the business park seems to employ a relatively small proportion from the immediate area and, as it was given permission before planning policy was changed on parking it has hundreds of parking spaces meaning lots of people drive to work there. I don't necessarily think workplace parking levies are good ideas because they are a tax on employment but it might work for the business park. The problem is that Gunnersbury station still doesn't have the capacity to cope with a significant increase in usage. |
